Growing up in the Bahamas, she was constantly surrounded by the natural beauty of the combination-- white sand and the palest blue sky and sea.

De Ravenel's childhood home in Lyford Cay was recently shown in the May Departures Home and Design Issue. The terrace, overlooking a pristine blue harbor, is built into the side of the rocky coast in a grotto, with painted blue furniture covered in blue and white striped fabrics. She was raised by a creative family made up of an artist/collector father and interior-designing mother.
