HIGH POINT SPRING 2014: DESIGNER DRIVEN AT CHADDOCK HOME

My visit to spring High Point Market 2014 stood out to me for the strong designer collections that launched. Mary McDonald came out with a wide range of furniture for Chaddock Home, which I am excited to share that with you soon. Chaddock, a family-owned American company, one of my wonderful sponsors this market, has two existing designer collections, with Larry Laslo and David Easton, and McDonald's newly launched assortment will round out their offerings with Neoclassic and Regency-inspired classic traditional flair. Easton, known for his comfortable classic interiors also has his feet firmly planted in the traditional, so making his designs available to a wider audience means his perfect sense of scale and proportion can be had by all. Many of the designs are classic Easton, something I am very familiar with since I worked for him. These classics, including a foldable x-benches and kidney sofas are pure Easton, one's that he returns to when the setting suits it. Since suitability and living go hand in hand, here is a look at the David Easton assortment, which includes designs from the past two markets and totals 64 pieces.

The Odeon Sofa, from the David Easton-designed collection can work in traditional and contemporary settings. A classic tapered leg with brass ferrules adds a hint of glimmer, while a long seat cushion and three back cushions are tailored for comfort. Little side pillows provide armrests.

A soft, sloping back leads into a low arm on the Easton-designed Feltrinelli Sofa. Generous enough to seat three, the clean-lined piece looks small while acting big.

The Venice Daybed also from the David Easton Collection combines playfully curving sides and tailored cushion. Bolsters add an elegant detail and a dressiness to the piece that could be at home at the foot of a bed or in a seating arrangement.

Banquettes are back. There are so many well-designed versions to choose from, including this super-streamlined Rue De Bac Banquette, with minimalist tufting and long tailored back cushions.  The three piece set has a modernity to it without being too mid-century, giving it a versatility.

Cut outs around the arms give the Edward Chair a lightness. A softly curving front and tapered legs convey a mid-century modern influence.

The David Easton-designed Rue De Lillie Dining Table has French 1940's flair. A unique stretcher and round detailing on tapered legs adds a delicate lightness to this round dining table. 

A classic Easton design, the wooden folding x-bench with a rich "Easton red" leather cushion and antique brass feet is wonderful in pairs or used on its own. Extra seating that looks great is a worthwhile addition to a seating area. Your quests will like it too, for it provides an additional perch in a pinch.

As coffee tables go, those that include brass detailing have a certain warmth. Mixed materials like blackened metal and wood are also nice, for they provide a variation of surface texture. The floating top of the David Easton-designed Roma Coffee Table has a lightness to it, while mixing things up a bit.

The Perry Folding Screen designed by David Easton of wood and glass is a great structural dividing tool to break up a space.

It's unusual to see accessories like decorative planters popping up alongside furniture, but more and more designers are conveying their entire vision at in their collections, which includes what happens out-of-doors. With that in mind, Easton designed a wooden planter to accommodate indoor trees, bringing a bit of the garden inside.
