Ready or not, its time to get decorating for the holidays. Get those Pine swags hung, Magnolia garlands out, and start to deck the halls. Nothing says holiday season like red white and green, but why not add some shimmery metallic touches to provide that necessary sparkle and glow? Ahead, some decorative details to get your home in tip top shape for the merriment that is to to come. Get your ornaments on the tree, stockings at the mantel and wreath on the door, cause St. Nick will soon be coming with his sleigh, and you want your Christmas style to come through on Christmas day.

Even if you have your tried and true stockings you adore, you can always add in some extras, for your friends, a new puppy or visiting relatives. I love these Candy Cane-striped knit stockings from World Market. They are adorable and fit a lot of silly little things, like lip balms, socks, Mentos, and other quirky finds. My family gets great joy from being supreme stocking fillers.

Need to start your stocking collection? Personalized stockings, like this red and white santa and snowy tree adorned version, ensure everyone goes for the right one come Christmas morning. Neiman Marcus has this stitched winter wonderland scene set against bright red.

Perhaps my favorite ornaments so far this season, these shiny red glass orbs from Serena and Lily will add some serious cheer to your tree. Once the tiny white lights get plugged in, it's pure magic.

I like a wide array of things on my tree, from globes to animals and miniature stockings. This glittering beauty, a star from Pottery Barn, is covered in sparkly silver glitter.

Show me Fair Isle anything, and I'm sold. This little itty bitty knit pom pom hat ornament from West Elm is too cute for words.

Add a bit of jolly to the boughs with a cute ol' rotund Saint Nick woven in red and white just like a sweater, from Crate and Barrel

When I spied this little cutie in the Chelsea West Elm recently, he stole my heart. Made of felt, this small Penguin has a lot of personality.

Maybe you are not totally feeling in the spirit this year. That's okay, you're allowed to have the holiday blues. J. Crew helps you express your emotions with their exclusive ceramic Hugo Guinness ornament that states your current mindset. Blah.

When Bunny Williams launched her new collection with Ballard Designs, she shared with me she wanted to get her angel design just right. The result, above, is just like the one she grew  up with, and it strongly resembles the beautiful Angel my Mom would but atop our tree with sheer wings.

West Elm did a really great job with their holiday assortment this year. Mostly clean-lined and streamlined, their products tend to go a bit sleeker, but the holiday provides a chance to get playful. A mirrored star, shown above, with many faceted sides resembles a classic hanging lantern but is meant for displaying in groups, on a table or in a bowl.

The holidays are a good time to decorate with a few personality pieces like these jaunty wooden Penguins from CB2. Add them to a tablescape or sideboard while serving a buffet to bring a smile to those who pass by.

A wonderful pin dot zig zag pattern is woven into this red and white Christmas Tree Skirt from Crate and Barrel. A red piping border adds the finishing touch.

Just like their linens, Serena and Lily's Ashford Tree Skirt has a double-banded border, making it a chic, understated tree skirt. Available with a red or green border, it's a classic.

Jingle bells have never been merrier! I had one of these bell wreaths years ago and can't seem to find it.  This spectacular vision from Williams-Sonoma, available online, is a wreath made entirely of shiny silver sleigh bells, is tied with a bright red ribbon, ready to go from the box to the door. If I had my druthers, I would have one on every single door of my apartment, that's how much I love this wreath.

Metallics continue to have a strong presence in decorative accessories, and around the holidays their sparkle is even more desirable. Taking the traditional Magnolia Leaf Wreath and dressing it up, Crate and Barrel has silvered leaves for an unexpected moment of glamour.

Adding a little something fun on the holiday table to entertain both adults and children is never a bad idea. Christmas Crackers are always a hit.  As the wine begins to flow, the paper crowns go on, and this set from West Elm comes with a set of 6 crackers to keep everyone in the fun zone.
