SHARING THE LATEST, GREATEST DECOR TRENDS WITH ID BOSTON MAGAZINE

This past October I had the great pleasure of sharing my trend views for the coming year with the Boston Design Center. My Considered Interiors: Creating Captivating Decor Guided by Personality and Style Keynote talk kicked off their fall design market, and it was such fun to do a deep dive into decor trends, shining a spotlight on emerging trends, colors, prints, materials and finishes. I had the opportunity to shop a few showrooms with the effervescent Mary McDonald, and we discussed the influences and inspirations behind her latest Schumacher fabrics. The array of trends I shared was just featured in their design magazine, ID Boston. Ahead, delve into the top trends, from "Seasonless Tropica"l to "Tribal", soon to be seen everywhere you look.

The influence of hand painted "Chinoiserie" prints can be felt everywhere- from Gucci jackets to hand-painted custom tile from Cle.  Designers Guild and De Gournay do it so well. Faux finishes have a less serious feel this time around, as seen in oversized marble and tortoise shell motif wallpaper. If you find you can't stay in one place for too long, perhaps you have "Bohemian Wanderlust". Satisfy that urge to roam with vibrant fabrics from Jim Thompson, Kravet, Osborne and Little and framed textiles from St. Frank.

I am seeing a big return to classic and traditional forms and old-school prints. This nod to the past celebrates pieces that will endure and have staying power. Some of my favorite trends? The giant palm leaves of "Seasonless Tropical" from Pierre Frey, Dedar and Braquenie prints, the classic appeal of Blue and White, "Tried and True Trad" for its timeless quality as seen through the Charlotte Barnes etagere, and Bunny Williams for Lee Jofa.  Feathers fly with the "Aviary" trend,  captured in a flock of birds from Osborne and Little, Mulberry Home and Schumacher.

When designing your home, surround yourself with things you love but don't shy away from things that have a sense of fun, too. Case in point, color, unique patterns and prints are all ways to bring "Meaningful and Individual: style home.  From France to New York,  African-inspired "Tribal" decor is having a moment, and Pierre Frey does it so well. And what's not to love about the return of white marble surfaces? From AERIN lighting to Curated Kravet accessories, add a dose of crisp white marble to get that solid rock's natural gleam.
