A FEW HIGH POINTS FROM THE 2016 HIGH POINT FURNITURE MARKET

Just back from a few whirlwind days of furniture market. When Editor at Large asked me to weigh in on my favorite items from High Point Furniture Market, there was no shortage of options. I was captivated by the large amount of raffia and linen wrapped coffee tables, vintage inspired pieces, high glam moments and white finishes. Here are a few pieces worth putting on your radar screen. More soon! And for a  more comprehensive look, order my High Point Trend Report. Leave a comment to get in touch.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based designer Barrie Benson for Highland House was one of the best introductions this market. Her vintage-inspired collection had great upholstered pieces done in cool color combinations that were just the right scale. Proportion is so important, and she really got that right with this collection of unique pieces that are perfect for city apartments.

I have come to rely on Bernhardt for a standout bed each market. Bernhard's new Palma Bed would look great in an ocean-side setting. The mix of cerused grey wood and woven raffia make it feel breezy and relaxed.

With a nod to classic architectural elements and an 80's vintage vibe and a little Gio Ponti thrown in, Mr. and Mrs. Howard's brass console for Sherrill was amazing.

John Robshaw for Duralee furniture was another noteworthy introduction. This scalloped ottoman brought the charm and whimsy we expect from a Robshaw collection.

This bi-level octagonal coffee table from Century with a glass top has ample storage and a fresh graphic quality. It keeps things interesting.

Following up a talk of the town collection debut with EJ Victor last market, Kate Spade New York delivered with this Palm Beach-ready chair with a bamboo x-back. The crisp white mixed with natural bamboo makes it resort town ready.

I could not get enough of this beautiful round mirror from Palacek. Made from pieces of shell, the flowering arms branch off from the sunburst shape giving it a lovely feminine yet graphic quality. I would love to see it against a brightly colored wall.
