CHARMED I'M SURE: SNAKES ARE TRENDING

by Marisa Marcantonio

Find them cool or creepy, snakes are having a moment. Showing up on walls and fancy china, the slithering, enigmatic creature is the subject of fascination and fear. Like them or hate them, they are in our midst. You can't escape them!

The bold mesmerizing designs of Voutsa wallpapers by artist George Venson amaze with their painterly quality, featuring in your face pouty lips, climbing flowers, and snakes. Set against a striking black background, their Black Snakes Wallpaper with a mirror image repeat is for the risk takers out there.

If anyone can make a serpent alluring, the beloved Italian design company Fornasetti can. Known for their captivating imagery and artistic flair during the 1960's, the kicky brand continues to innovate. The Serpent Rug, a reedition from the Fornasetti archives made by  Roubini has an alluring, disarming charm.

If you like snakes in small doses and their patterned skins, here is a way to get the look. Double Snakes from Peking Handicrafts shows two embroidered snakes in purple and teal on a linen pillow.

Pheromone Design takes colorful natural specimens like beetles, butterflies and bugs and frames them, creating stark, impactful art for walls. When they got into the snake game, I didn't know how I felt about it, because it was formerly alive. The red and white pattern of this little reptile is certainly graphic though.

Snake hand towels bring a bit of fun to the powder room. I love August Morgan's always playful embroidered cocktail napkins and tip towels. I mean, c'mon, this guy is friendly. Like cartoon friendly, so you can let your guard down while checking to see if your lipstick is on right.
