SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND ART AND ANTIQUES: THE HIGHBOY TURNS ONE

One of the best parts of interior design style today is the mix. Great interiors lead the way, by inspiring, and teaching the art of achieving the perfect assortment of pieces both old and new. Attaining that balance is a dance that involves scale, texture, material, color and pattern. I am always on the look out for interesting items that add to the alluring mix we all seek. There are great resources out there to achieve a layered look, and I like to stay on top of what websites and companies provide that array. The HighBoy , the year-old antique and fine art marketplace, has amassed a network of large and small antique dealers, and added an easy to shop feature, the "Make an Offer" button to propose an offer price, and expanded editorial coverage with The Weekly section, which includes behind the scenes dealer interviews and the history of antiques.   Here are some discoveries I uncovered while taking a look at the site recently. As you can see, there is a widely divergent mix of styles, with 1000 pieces added each month. Just the kind of rabbit hole I like to escape into from time to time.  To celebrate their first year anniversary, The HighBoy is offering Stylebeat readers $100 off anything they purchase on the site (with a minimum spend of $200.00).  Enter the code: stylebeat2015 when purchasing, and add some unique personality pieces to your home.

Russian American painter Igor Pantuhoff studied under Hans Hoffman and became best known for his portraits of Grace Kelly and business leaders. This surreal city scape with still life is such a cool piece, I love the carnations.

A Small French Antique Convex Bull's Eye Mirror painted black with gilding is one of those wonderful pieces that will always look great. A classic

Bold and angular 1970's design can add a dose of modernism to a space when used well. This etagere, a tilted brass square on a smaller square base, is arresting to look at empty, it will look even better with a few standout objects.

I never tire of classic tufting. These 1960's slipper chairs in oyster linen with a tufted back have an comfortable pitch and nice scale

Mid-Century lamps don't always have a way of blending in well, but this crackly-glazed pair in gradient shades of blue is a good urn shape that can mix in well.

Fireplace season is upon us, so if your hearth needs a little spiffying up, these brass Anchor Andirons are just the thing for you coastal dwellers.

Does your garden need a little lift? Garden urns add a little perk, even if the grass is covered in snow and you don't think your trees will ever grow buds again. French Lead Garden Urns with Greek key detailing and a patina that only 19th Century age can provide will add a dose of classicism inside or out.
