MEET THE HIGHBOY: YOUR NEW ONLINE ANTIQUES RESOURCE

Have you heard of The Highboy? They are a new online marketplace, devoted to selling antiques with a fresh spin in an inspiring way. Shop by price, category, style or period, from over 75 dealers, whose items are vetted by husband and wife founders European art and antiques expert Olga Granda-Scott, who comes from a family of antique dealers and Douglas Scott. Appealing to a younger generation of online consumers,  the site, with it's bold graphics and consistent, large-scale photographs, shares the antique and decorative art market with a down-to-earth approach. Rather than putting the pieces they sell on a pedestal, they want buyers and collectors to see the items as pieces meant to be lived with and enjoyed. Prices cover a wide range, and designers can register with their Designers Club, to receive trade pricing and shipping costs. With The Weekly, editorial content rounds out their site's mission to educate in an appealing way, as they share interesting stories, revealing the origin of furniture styles, profiles on their dealers and notable historic moments in antiques and design. With a deep network of established dealers, they are taking what can be a dusty, unexciting process-- shopping for antiques-- and breathing new life into it.  Looking for a particular style or piece? Their new concierge service will tap their dealer network to track it down.  Here are some finds I discovered while perusing The Highboy, named after the iconic piece of colonial American furniture:

A pair of 1960s "Sirocco" chairs in Rio rosewood and leather by Arne Norell.

Pair of Mid-Century Moorish mirrors in brass

A circa 1980's Baker chest of drawers in a faux tortoise shell lacquer finish

This classic Jansen-style 20th Century demilune console table in ebony and brass on casters

A 19th Century Georgian red lacquered papier mache tray on stand coffee table

A highly textured French antique panel with Neoclassical plaster relief
